ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Department of First-Year Engineering (Sciences and Humanities)

This department plays a major role in equipping first-year Diploma students to take up their core program education. The English Language Laboratory assists students in improving their linguistic skills. Activities like individual and group presentations, situational conversations and software-based assistance to enhance soft skills help students to develop their personalities. The department has a state-of-the-art Chemistry Laboratory and Physics Laboratory. Special care is taken for first-year students by providing faculty mentors to help them to adapt to engineering subjects.

Engineering Mathematics

Mathematical courses offer assistance to many undergraduate and postgraduate engineering courses of the college. In order to have a strong mathematical base at diploma level, the department conducts lectures, tutorials, and seminars for the first two semesters of diploma courses. The department takes the responsibility of preparing students for the high levels of mathematical skills required in engineering

Engineering Physics

There is a symbiotic relation between Physics & Engineering. Broadly speaking, Engineering has mainly Applied Physics. The present-day technological developments have been the result of joint efforts of physicists & engineers. A proper study of Physics is therefore indispensable for engineering students to excel in their fields. The department of Sciences and Humanities offers Engineering Physics Theory and Lab courses for F. Y. diploma students. The theory course deals with the advanced areas in Physics like Fiber Optics, LASER, Quantum Physics, and Architectural Acoustics, etc.; whereas lab courses are designed in order to understand the actual fundamentals, students learn during theory, in practice.

Engineering Chemistry

Chemistry is the branch of science that deals with the study of the composition and properties of matter. So chemistry is relevant to every walk of life. Chemistry is needed everywhere in life. Without a chemical reaction, there is no single moment in life. Chemistry plays an important role in engineering. Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry are the basic sciences learned by a student at school and intermediate level. Engineering students must have a basic understanding of these subjects. The syllabus of Chemistry in the engineering stream extends the knowledge acquired at an intermediate level. The subject is offered as an ‘Engineering Chemistry’ theory and lab course for the students in their first year of engineering and it is common for all the branches of engineering. Here Engineering chemistry forms a bridge between basic sciences and engineering subjects. Engineering Programmes like Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Computer Science Engineering and Information Technology Engineering, Automobile Engineering need the basics of chemistry directly or indirectly

Communication Skills

Technical competence is at the core of success in engineering but it is equally crucial to consider the ability to communicate concepts effectively. In order to prepare an engineering graduate to satisfy the above needs, an efficient and effective curriculum of English Proficiency has been developed with effective planning of its delivery. This interactive course reviews the fundamental principles behind effective communication of all types, providing guidance on communication and presentation strategies. It gives practical advice on the different modes of communication, including formal writing skills like emails, letters, notices, and reports; telephone, face-to-face interactions, and examines how to design and deliver an effective presentation. In recent years, the department has widened its scope by offering choice-based courses of Professional Skills Development under Soft Skills Program for higher classes. Vidyavardhini Institute of Technology (VVIT) has facilitated English Language Training for First-Year diploma students. The training modules are targeted to empower students with English language skills that will help them to develop Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing (LSRW) skills. The skills will help them to achieve their goals in academics and careers. It is ensured that all students participate in the program with enthusiasm.
